The consolidation among the hard disk makers continues.

On Monday March 7, 2011, Western Digital (WDC) agreed to purchase Hitachi GST (Global Storage Technologies) for $4.3 billion for cash and stock.

It looks like this deal will give Western Digital a larger presence in the enterprise market. According to research firm iSuppli, Western Digital and Hitachi together will be nearly twice as large as Seagate by number of units shipped.

Prior the the consolidation, Seagate got 65% of its sales from the enterprise market, versus just 1% in Western’s case.

Recently, Seagate had acquired Maxtor and Toshiba bought Fujitsu’s drive unit.

Yobitech will continue to source and supply drives from Hitachi for our enterprise users looking for maximum performance and value.
